Academic Updates

The final term of the year was a whirlwind of activity on the academic front. Lesson plans were completed as per the schedule and the teachers were happy with the progress made by the students.

The various club activities were also conducted every afternoon.

Term end progress review meeting was conducted for all the students where our director, along with the team of special educators and therapists had a discussion with all the parents. It was a fruitful discussion with many useful inputs and feedback, with complete focus on holistic student development.

Accreditation Of Vocational Curriculum:

In a crucial step towards providing standardized and recognized education and skill training for students with autism and related intellectual challenges, Swabodhini, in association with Guru Nanak College (Autonomous), has developed curriculum framework for 12 month certification courses in

  • Retail skills
  • Computer skills
  • Culinary skills

These courses are now accredited by the Academic Council.

Students undergoing this course will receive certification from Guru Nanak College.

TNSDC Course Completion:

Swabodhini is a registered training provider under Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation (TNSDC) –the only special school to have the trainer log in.

We started a 500 hrs training program on DTP & Print Publishing course in July 2018.

9 students completed the 500hr training as well as the external evaluation and have passed the course with flying colours.

The students have received thecertification by the government. To celebrate this success the students planned a surprise treat for the staff. It was a very heart-warming moment for the teachers.

Truly this is a day to remember and a successful event in the lives of our students

Internships & Placements

The last term has been momentous in terms of internships and placements.

Two of our students, who were doing their internships are now placed full time at their place of work –Mr. Vishwanath at MAGC consultants & Mr. Kaustav at Guru Nanak College.

6 of our students have commenced their internships. The details are as below

  • Retail skills: 3 students – Mr. Nikhil Jawali, Mr. Praveen Kumar & Mr. Abhishek started their internship at supermarkets in Tiruvanmiyur.
  • Culinary skills: 2 students – Ms. Priya & Ms. Booja have started their internship at Lennox International staff cafeteria
  • Computer skills: Mr. Ashwin Ananth has started his internship at Saksoft Ltd.

We also have internship opportunities lined up for a few more students. We wish them all the very best for a bright future.

Annual Day At Swabodhini

Swabodhini School and Vocational Centre for Special Children celebrated its 30th Annual Day on 3rd March, 2019 at the Guru Nanak College Auditorium.

All 66 of our students showcased their learnings at Swabodhini on stage.This year, the theme of the annual day was “Sangamam – A New World of Inclusion”.

The Chief Guest for the event was Mr. Rangarajan M, Executive Director, Servion Global Solutions Limited. As part of the cultural program, the students put up a grand act which had various types of dances , a yoga display, a fitness display as well as a choir presentation.

The student toppers were awarded on this day.

We had also recognized the excellence of our supporters and had felicitated them with the Ambassador Awards Special Awards and Pillar of Swabodhini awards.

We thank everyone who had been present on the day for cheering and encouraging our students and teachers.

Our founder and managing trustee, Mrs Radha Ganesan was awarded the “Outstanding Woman of the Year Award 2018-2019” from Inner Wheel Club of Madras Cosmos on Women’s Day!

Quiz Program

Quizzes are always fun and now they are inclusive…

Our students participated in “Quizabled” organized by Spastn and won a lot of prizes.

This initiative ensured to encourage the students strengthen their knowledge about the world at large and foster a sense of team spirit.

In School Activities

Birthday Celebrations

As is customary, the last day of the month is the time to celebrate birthdays at the school.

This month the celebrations were gala as we had the Rotary Club members join the students and teachers to celebrate the occasion with us.

The Club organized a special magic show which was well appreciated by the students who were mesmerized with the performance.

Special snacks sponsored by the club were distributed to all.

The birthday cake was cut by all those celebrating their birthdays during the month.

We thank the ladies of the club for spending their time with us.
