Experiential learning uses visual, auditory and hands-on approaches, with self-directed student participation, to enhance comprehension and reinforce content. Today, teachers combine this traditional approach with practical experience, which breaks concepts into structured steps that can be modelled. Teachers can then guide students to master content more easily while supporting independent learning skills. As a result of these combined approaches, students benefit from active engagement in the learning process, process content more efficiently, and are more likely to increase their comprehension and retention of target material.

As a long-established teaching methodology, direct instruction adapts beautifully to new ways of use when combined with the use of scripts. Together, these approaches help to develop automatic recall skills, acting as cues for students to remember previously learned information.

Swabodhini adopts experiential learning into the curriculum for relating the classroom knowledge acquired into real life experience. Every class has a structured timetable for these sessions every month and the teacher along with students & caregivers make visits to the places/ labs/ locations etc where they are shown the real life demonstrations. The visits are not just once. It is made at least twice or thrice based on the needs until the child becomes independent. The concepts taught through experiential learning include – travel through public transport, social behaviour in public places like malls, temples, theme parks, theatres etc., shopping skills through visit to departmental stores, historic facts through museum visits etc.
